Respect fear. Fear nothing.
Fear is irrational. It is constructed of two parts ignorance and one part cowardice. We fear what we do not know. We fear what we cannot explain. We fear when we are weak, when we are unwilling to sacrifice.
FDR said, "The only thing we have to fear is fear itself."
Fear nothing. Learn. Seek insight. Lacking insight, persevere. There is little that cannot be overcome, the only variable is the price.
Congressional Sleight of Hand
When you can't control actual violence, make a big show about
controlling imaginary violence.
"Certainly, many families want alternatives to violent TV. And guess what? They have them and, amazingly, can wield a remote well enough to find them. Family-friendly American Idol is the biggest show on TV. Cable, that font of gore, offers more family and documentary shows than ever were available in the three-channel era. But if politicians simply respected the audience's choices, stopped posturing against theoretical violence and fictional bad guys, they would have to focus on, say, the thornier problems of stopping actual bloodshed in the real world.
"There's a term for that in the entertainment business. They call it escapism."
Three salesmen come up to my door...
People think door-to-door salesmen are a thing of days past, but I had three (man, woman and child) come up to my house yesterday.
"We'd like to invite you to church."
"No thanks."
"Yes you are."
"Yes you are"? Was he expecting, "I'm not interested in your little snake cult"?
I've had Jehovah's Witnesses come up before and it pisses me off. I bought a house with an acre of land so I wouldn't have random people walking past my windows and on my doorstep. It appears all of that must be ignored when spreading the word of God!
Remember,
teach your child early to invade others privacy.
