We'll give you the world!

There are so many small things that remind me of New York. I doubt there is any other city in the U.S. that has so references in pop culture; it isn't even the obvious references that anyone would recognize, it's the smaller "in jokes" that trigger strange memories.

My son and I were watching Sesame Street on GPTV when it did a short that pretended to be a pet news program: "Give us 22 minutes..." That's the tagline for 1010 WINS in NYC. "Give us 22 minutes, we'll give you the world!" I recall how my mother would have it on in the kitchen every morning for news, traffic, everything.

Just a little "in joke" that I wanted everyone else to share.

Going a travelling.

Our travel plans for New York are set. We'll have a solid six days in the city to see family and friends. The car and hotel totalled less than a grand: $450 for the hotel, a Ramada Inn with a restaurant, gym and pool; another $450 for the SUV class from Hertz. We won't be stopping on the way up to New York. I'm driving straight through to get up quickly, but we haven't planned our return trip yet.

Kristi and I have talked a lot about moving to the general D.C. area (northern VA or Maryland), so we try to stay there when we go to NY and scout things out to see what we like. Jason recommended we check out Fairfax, which is a short commute to D.C. and isn't as busy as some other places. We really just need to plan a trip up there without the kids, stay in the area for a week and bounce from place to place, figuring out what we want. I'm sure a lot will depend on where we can find work, where there are good schools, in addition to general housing ideas.

Cheap liquor.

Rutledge is a drunk. Many aspire to grasp that silver ring but this bastard helped forge it. I say this not because he drinks excessively (though he does) or by himself (though he does) but that he drinks Vendange, something less vile than Boone's Farm but still the wine equivalent of Miller Lite (Boone's Farm is the equivalent of Colt 45).

When it costs $14 for three liters, you're scraping the bottom of the barrel.
